![]() ![]() * In a later storyline mind control was used to make Firelord fight Thor, and again it was a tie. * Firelord then teamed-up with both of them against an attack of Class 100+ strength constructs created by Ego the Living Planet, giving and taking at least as good as they both did. * In his first appearance Firelord got in a knock-down-drag-out-through-the-walls-and-outside-the-building brawl with an enraged Hercules for several minutes, with neither side even getting winded, until Thor showed up and stopped the hissy fit. The following is, to the best of my knowledge, the complete list of every single appearance Firelord had ever made in Marvel comics prior to the Spider-Man-vs-Firelord fight: I actually researched that fight once for an online debate. How different would Marvel be if they decided to roll with this? What if this fight had set the precedent for all future fights against heavy-hitters since? Like fighting Venom, Carnage, Doctor Doom, Hulk etc.? ![]() Years later, while the story is still technically canon, Marvel doesn't reference it due to how insane it was, even Dan Slott has expressed displeasure towards it. Barring this, he's generally good at portraying characters accurately, and while Spidey has had some amazing feats since, none are quite like this. Tom DeFalco, who wrote that story, was a longtime Spider-Man writer, even creating the AU Spider-Girl, and outside this fight, he's a fan-favorite for Marvel who had a run as their editor-in-chief. Firelord fight where Spidey summons some kind of inner strength to punch out a cosmically-powerful former Herald of Galactus without even taking one hit is many things, but basically a nightmare feat that, while giving a great showing of Peter's characterization, doesn't fit with the established logic of the Marvel Universe and is cited as a premier example of Plot-Induced Stupidity.Īs infamous as it is, it's also proof that one instance of bad writing doesn't affect the rest of the canon.
